The Membership Model & Insurance
-
Emerald Aura Wellness operates as a Direct Specialty Care practice. We are and out-of-network provider. This allows us to offer 60-90 minute evaluations, direct text access to your provider, and comprehensive school advocacy - services that traditional insurance-based clinics simply cannot support due to time constraints.
While we do not bill insurance directly, we provide a monthly “Superbill” (a medical receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We recommend calling your insurance provider to ask about you “Out-of-Network Mental Health Benefits.”
-
Traditional psychiatry often leaves patients stranded between appointments. Our membership model ensures you have a safety net. The fee covers:
Direct Access: Secure texting with your provider for urgent questions (no waiting 3 days for a call back)
Administrative Advocacy: Completion of school forms, 504/IEP letters, and letters to college disability offices
Care Coordination: Time spent collaborating with your child’s therapist, pediatrician, or school counselor.
Refill Management: Handling prior authorizations and pharmacy coordination
-
We ask for an initial 3-month commitment to ensure we have time to stabilize medication and see results. After that, memberships are month-to-month. You may cancel any time with 30 days’ notice.
For Parents (Children & Teens)
-
Yes. For all patients under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present for the intake appointment. For follow up appointments, we ask that a parent be available at the beginning and end of the session to recap progress and discuss medication changes.
-
Absolutely! This is a core part of our mission. We understand the IEP and 504 Plan process and can provide the necessary medical documentation and physician letters to help your child get the support they deserve in the classroom.
Treatment & Safety (Crucial for ADHD)
-
Yes, when medically necessary. However, we take a safety-first approach. We do not prescribe controlled substances on the first visit without a comprehensive evaluation. Our protocol includes:
A thorough clinical interview and history.
Review of objective data (teacher/professor assessments).
A check of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).
Cardiac history screening.
A signed “Controlled Substance Agreement.”
Note: We do not replace lost or stolen controlled substance prescriptions.
-
While we do not require expensive neuropsychological testing for every patient, we do require collateral data.
For Children/Teens: We require Vanderbilt Assessment forms filled out by a teacher.
For College Students: We may request old report cards, previous records, or a conversation with parent/partner to confirm childhood history of symptoms.
For College Students & Young Adults
-
Licensing laws require that you be physically located in a state where we are licensed at the time of your telehealth visit.
If you are in Maryland: We can treat you fully.
If you are in another state for school: We can often manage your care if you return to Maryland for appointments, but regulations vary. Please contact us to discuss your specific university location.
-
We do not offer “automatic” refills for controlled substances. You must request a refill 3-5 business days before you run out via our secure portal. This ensures we have time to check your file and send the prescription to your pharmacy before you are empty.
